Medicare pays $0 towards foreign travel emergency care.  However, if you have a Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan C, D, F, G, N, the plan will pay 80% to a lifetime maximum benefit of $50,000.  If you have one of these plans you would pay the first $250 and then 20% and amounts over the $50,000 lifetime maximum.

Some people decide to get an International Travel Insurance policy in addition to their Medicare Supplement Plan.
