    Medicare does not cover NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) such as nicotine patches or gum because they are purchased over the counter. A prescription for a medication used to reduce nicotine cravings are covered under Medicare Part D. Part B will cover counseling sessions (a maximum of 8 per year) with the intent to help the individual quit smoking.
