Medicare Supplements help pay the deductibles and copay's of Medicare.  Depending on the plan you choose you could have nearly 100% of you covered medical expenses covered.  Medicare was never designed to pay all of your Medical costs.  If you get sick you could end up with thousands of dollars in out of pocket costs with just one trip to the hospital  A good Medicare Supplement is worth the investment if you can afford the premium.  If not then look at a good Medicare Advantage Plan.

Medicare Advantage plans do indeed have lower premiums than most Medicare supplement plans, but that does not necessarily make them "more affordable"

Medicare Advantage plans have a lot of moving parts. When you access most medical services you are required to satisfy a deductible, pay a copay, or both.

People who use a lot of medical services (doctor, hospital, diagnostic, therapy, etc.) may find an Advantage plan to be quite expensive when you factor in your out of pocket costs, a Medicare Advantage plan can be considerably more expensive than a Medigap plan.

Medicare Supplement plans are designed to supplement your Medicare. Since Medicare, like most medical insurance policies, pay a portion (80%) of your medical costs. The Medicare Supplement plan will pay additional expenses, up to 100%, of your medical expenses.   It is important that you are clear on your needs and budget in decided which plan is best for you.
