Coverage wise Plan F is considered the Cadillac Plan. You have virtually no out of pocket expenses for Medicare covered charges. It is also going to be the highest premium. Depending on a persons situation, there may be other plans that are more cost effective. Compare the premiums for Plan N, D, and C or look at the High Deductible F. HDF is very inexpensive compared to other plans. Your out of pocket exposure is limited to around $2200. Medicare will pay there portion until this deductible is met. This is a good choice for those on a limited budget.

Is Medigap plan F the best? Well it depends on what the person wants. I have found plan F to be great coverage from a plan that is used. I have my mom on F and we've made visits over the years to the ER and extended stays for everything from heart issues to infusions and a few things in between. With all of these services, she has not had a bill to pay. Granted the premium is high, but the out of pocket is very low. The other aspect of F that I have witnessed first hand is the ability to switch doctors with ease. She has fired several doctors over the years, often in the same year. Other plans require a year's commitment to a doctor to work. Plan F doesn't. As with any Medicare decision, look at a couple ideas before deciding.
