A renter’s policy pays for damages caused by “named perils.”  This means that if the carpet is damaged by fire, windstorm, lightning of a long list of other potential perils, the company will repair or replace the carpet.  Recovery under a renter’s policy is subject to a deductible.  The deductible is stated in the policy declarations.  If the damage to the carpet is caused by neglect or fair wear and tear, it is not covered.
