   Renters insurance is designed to cover sudden and accidental losses. The resulting damage from a water heater that suddenly ruptures is a covered loss. The water heater itself is not covered but the resulting water damage to your personal belongings would be covered. Check your deductible before filing a claim to make sure it makes sense to file the claim.
