A renter's insurance claim does not take long to process. Typically, you call the insurer or broker and provide basic information. Some additional information may be needed and it is possible that an adjuster will visit the house or apartment.

A short time later, assuming the claim was approved, a check will be sent.

Claims services depend upon the company but also upon the insured who should be able to provide all of the detailed information necessary for the claims professional to handle the case cleanly and efficiently.  Once you report your claim and it is opened ewither by your Insurance Professional or directly with the company, you should expect to be contacted by the claims professional to whom your case has been assigned within 24 hours.  Once in process, your claim professional should be able to handle most clean claims very quickly.

A renters claim needs information.  As soon as the information can be assembled, settling the claim is quite quick.  The company does have a right to investigate.  In a recent claim the customer claimed the loss of photographic equipment from his car.  The amount of equipment claimed couldn’t have been crammed into the car.  In addition, he advertised himself as a professional photographer.  Business equipment isn’t covered.  However, the process of investigation is not lengthy and the adjuster is trying to get the claim closed as quickly as possible.
