Life insurance companies say to allow one to two months for a life insurance claim to be paid. This is after you send them a completed death claim form and certified death certificate. The process can be shorter, or, as in the case of a policy my dad took out 68 years ago, it could take a little longer. But it will get paid!

At the death of the policy insured, the beneficiaries or trustee or business partners can file the certificate of death, the newspaper obituary and the claim form for the life insurance company. It takes between 30 and 60 days to process and receive the death benefit proceeds, longer if death occurred during the contestability period, i.e. the first two years of the policy.
