The shingles vaccine shot is generally covered under your prescription coverage. Medicare Part D stand-alone prescription drug plans generally cover vaccine shots needed to prevent illness such as the flu shot or shingles shot.

Medicare Part A (your hospital insurance) and Part B (your physician insurance) do not cover the shingles vaccine shot.

Medicare Part A is designed for hospital coverage. Medicare Part B covers physician services. Medicare Part D covers prescription drugs. These coverages are not complete. Supplemental plans are available that are formulated by Medicare to cover the gaps in coverage. The administration of a vaccine would probably be covered if all four of these policies were in force.
