No a heart attack is usually not considered accidental but rather a health condition. Accidental Death life policies are "conditional" pay policies, where just simple death doesn't necessarily trigger a death claim payout. Certain conditions must be met for payment and most people aren't aware that one of the conditons is a time restriction.

A person is gravely injured in a car accident and manages to live 94 days before passing. Clearly an accident was the cause of death, but? according to the conditions of the policy the death must occur within 90 days of the event. Living 94 days actually voids the policy.

AD&D insurance is extremely inexpensive. It is not priced that way because a company pays out a lot in claims. One really needs to think if there are any savings in a life plan that is subject to conditional death to pay out.

Accidental Life Insurance policies are more of a lottery ticket than real life insurance. They will ONLY pay a claim if you die as the result of an accident. And MOST people do NOT die of accidents.

A heart attack is not an accident. The policy won't pay for that.

If you have a real NEED for life insurance, you need it regardless of how you die. Don't buy foolish things like accidental policies unless you are only considering it in addition to your real life insurance.

Accidental Life Insurance policies will not cover heart attack, even if a heart attack was the cause of a fatal accident. To get coverage for death caused by heart attack or any other natural cause, you must purchase traditional Term or Permanent Life insurance. Life insurance covers death due to natural AND accidental causes.

Accidental Life Insurance will only pay if the death was the result of an accident, it will not pay for a death due to natural causes. In most cases an accidental death is the result of some physical injury or trauma. Examples would be death from a car accident, falling off a roof, or being shot. Normally a heart attack would be the result of a medical condition (natural causes) and not the result of an accident.

That being said, it is possible that a person could die of a heart attack that was the result of an accident. There could be a case where a person was skydiving and unable to open there parachute. This realization could trigger a heart attack causing the person to die before hitting the ground. This would be a case of a heart attack caused by an accident, not caused by natural causes.
