Most new life insurance agents are taught to prospect by first contacting their friends and relatives. That is the traditional way of prospecting for clients. Then you go on to holding seminars, advertising, going door to door, etc.

As an online life insurance agent for 12 years, I have found (after much trial and error), that if you want direct marketing to be your forte, then work as hard as you can to develop internet leads, and don't put a lot of time into traditional prospecting. That being said, you cannot count on one lead source, as things can happen to sabotage it. So you must have leads available to purchase, in addition to those you develop yourself through your website, internet advertising, etc.
