When you leave a job, sometimes the life insurance policy is portable, meaning that it can be taken with the employee when they leave. Sometimes the insurance policy ends when the employee leaves the job that supplied the policy. Life insurance is not covered by COBRA like health insurance is.

What happens to life insurance when you leave a job? Well, in most cases you leave the life insurance behind. If the life insurance is convertible to an individual product, you may be able to take it with you at a much higher cost. If the life insurance you have at work is simply a list bill agreement then you can take your policy and continue to fund it through your checking account rather than payroll.
