    probably, but it would depend on the situation.  If the primary use of the car is in the US, you should be able to find an insurance company that will accept and international driver's license.  If the vehicles is primarily driven in Canada, then you would need to get Canadian insurance.  Either way the policies should cover you in both countries, but with currency conversion sometimes the number's get complicated!
