Your auto insurance is typically an at will coverage, which means that you could cancel the coverage at any point you wish. If you have a loan on the vehicle and you have cancelled your auto insurance you may be in violation of the contractual agreement with the lien holder and they may purchase auto insurance coverage for you and then charge you for this coverage as stipulated in the contract. Almost all states in the USA require all licensed drivers to have auto insurance and if you are caught driving without it you could be fined. Not to mention that if you are driving without insurance and are involved in an accident you could be placing yourself and your family in great financial peril.
