    That is a great question! If you mean like by looking at your license plate, the answer is no. If you don't have proof of insurance when they pull you over though, you'd better hope mightily that you don't live in one of the states that allows officers to check the national insurance database. Either way, if you don't have insurance when you are caught, you will pay dearly for it, and if you did, but couldn't prove it, you are most likely still going to have to pay a fine.
