    The easiest way would be to ask them. Due to privacy laws you more than likely will not be able to locate this information without getting the other person to provide it to you volunterilly. To best protect yourself in most auto accidents make certain that you have uninsured motorists and underinsured motorist coverage.

    Ask the person to show you his policy.  An insurance company is obliged to provide evidence of insurance whenever the person insured requests it.  If you have an interest in the vehicle being insured you can demand evidence from the owner. 

    Although it is a state requirement, some cars are operated without insurance.  Others operate with inadequate insurance.
