    If your car is considered totaled then a good indicator would go look at NADA>com or Kelly blue book online this would be a close estimate as to what they will give you now if you decided to keep the car you can do that also but you will get less cash for your car from the claim.
    Another way you can do this is make sure that you know the value of your auto you can call car dealerships and they can tell you what the car was worth prior to the accident.
    Insurance is to indemnify not to put you ahead. What you think your car is worth may not be as much as an adjuster thinks so be prepared and have a realistic value for your auto. Also if you had optional permanently  attached  equipment make sure that your policy had that listed or you may not get the value of that included.
