A major violation, like a DUI conviction, could have a significant impact on your auto insurance premium. Most insurers are not anxious to offer their most favorable rates to customers with that kind of a blemish on their driving record. Shopping around on the Internet may be an alternative but any insurance company looking at you will just see a car with an operator with a DUI conviction. If they consider you at all, they would at prices they charge other operators with major violations.

If you are in this situation, I suggest you take a look at your entire insurance portfolio. Most people are more than a car insurance policy. They have home insurance, other family cars, life and health and often business insurance. It is possible one of those companies or agents will look at you as an entity and not just someone with a major violation. You may be able to explain the circumstances and reduce the underwriter’s fear a similar event will reoccur. Seldom do you get this opportunity when dealing with someone on-line.

Will it work, maybe not, but it certainly is worth consideration if you are dealing with this kind of an issue.

A DUI conviction could very well have a significant impact on your car insurance.  In some states, the offense results in a suspension of your Driver's License, at least for a time.  In CT, for a first offense, one is given the opportunity to attend classes which, upon successful completion, in effect wipes the slate clean.  However, if one's insurance company is made aware of the license suspension, it is possible that you could be notified that your insurance is to be cancelled even in mid term.  Beyond that, plan for a premium increase that could be pretty substantial.

There is typically two types of auto insurance companies... 1- Standard & 2 - Non-standard.  For the most part standard companies are for drivers with few traffic violations.  Non-standard is s typically for higher risk drivers.  A DUI conviction falls into this category.  If you were convicted of DUI and did not lose your license, you can expect that if you were with a standard auto insurance company, they will probably cancel your coverage and you may have to move to a non-standard company, which will be much more expensive.  Depending on the state, you may also have to add a certificate of financial responsibility, which may add addition cost to the policy.

Two things may happen after you receive a DUI conviction: You can expect to see higher auto insurance premiums with any company. You may receive a letter of none renewal from most standard auto insurance companies. You will see a significant increase in premium from a non-standard insurance company at time of renewal, Call the MVA of DMV in your state to see how this affects you driving privileges. You may be denied a Job offer. You may be denied life insurance with some companies. It is not good in either case.
