    YES, you can Buy Individual Short-Term Disability Insurance. Short-term meaning immediate upon being disabled up to 12 months. After 12 months, you can have a Long-Term Disability plan kick in.

    When you look at these plans, be sure to look at the definitions of disability, partial disability, cost of living adjustments and retroactive coverage for the long-term disability. These should be a part of most policies which take care of all the "gray" areas of coverage.
