Long Term Disability Insurance policies pay out a cash benefit when the insured person is unable to work due to injury or illness. When you buy the policy, you select an elimination period, which is the amount of time you will need to wait until the coverage kicks in. The longer the elimination period, the lower the premium. Then you select a length of time that you want the coverage to last. This can be from a couple years to a lifetime. There are other features to choose from, as well, and all are important in how your policy will pay out if you need to use it.

To get a long term disability policy that you can rely on to pay out if you are disabled for over a few months, contact a trusted broker who can explain all the features and help you get a policy that work well for you.
