    Since you pay for private Disability Insurance with after tax dollars, the benefits are not taxable. While there are mostly likely some exceptions to this, this is the general rule. Employer provided Disability benefits can be taxable if the employer took a tax deduction when paying the premium. So this is a nice advantage of private Disability Insurance.
