To qualify for Disability Insurance, applicants need to show that they do not have an exceptionally high risk of becoming disabled. Having a health condition that lends itself to becoming disabled, even though the risk of death is very low (e.g. MS) will make it difficult to get a Disability Insurance policy. The applicant must also earn an income. Stay at home workers who are not compensated are unable to qualify for disability insurance.
