    Social Security disability benefits can generate some income during a prolonged sickness and/or recovery from an injury. Some employer group plans also offer short term disability. But if your employer doesn't offer disability benefits, then most advisers recommend having at least short term disability insurance if you can't afford long term disability premiums.
