For all practical purposes the answer should be "No". The Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) requires coverage for maternity and newborn care to be covered as any other illness under its Minimum Essential Benefits requirements. Also, the Affordable Care Act forbids the application of pre-existing conditions exclusions or waiting periods to health insurance policies. During the last open enrolment period I enrolled a couple of previously uninsured women who were pregnant in the new ObamaCare compliant individual health plans offered in our state and they were covered immediately and had their delivery & other associated expenses covered. These same people would have been declined for coverage due to their pregnancies being defined as pre-existing conditions before January 1, 2014.
