    Under the Affordable Care Act children may stay on their parents' health insurance plan until they reach the age of 26. At 26 they have a number of choices and options.

    When they reach 26 they can take COBRA if their parents plan was a group health insurance plan or they can buy individual health insurance since they have a qualifying event.
