You can always purchase an individual health insurance plan if group coverage is not available to you or the coverage offered is not desirable. You can only apply for individual plans during the annual enrollment period or under a special enrollment period if you have a qualifying event (e.g. getting married, having a baby, etc.)

Individual health plans can be purchased on or off the health insurance exchanges. If you qualify for a subsidy, you may want to look at plans on the exchanges - subsidies can only be used towards on-exchange plans.

I hope the information is helpful - please feel free to contact me for help and if you have any other questions. Thanks very much.

Go to I Hate Buying... oops. "NO self promotion allowed"... hehehe.

Here is my suggestion... Work with an independent agent... A REAL independent. There are SO MANY "marketing groups" that SAY they'll shop the "Health Market" place. Truth is... most of these large/national marketing groups (just a hair shy of saying all) have hand picked carriers they work with. I just went to the site of a particular group... the ONLY carrier showing is the ONLY one paying compensation to the marketing group.

See... Obamacare has destroyed the profitability of the health insurance carriers. (Profit is GOOD people. You "profit" in your own household when you can spend lass than you earn.) With that said, SO MANY carriers are not paying compensation tot the brokers if you enroll someone in an ACA plan with that carrier. Cigna is an example. SO, go to the big dot.com sites, the large marketing groups, have removed these carriers from their websites. (Exactly why I DON'T HAVE a quote program on my website!!)

You can go to their site, shop, and THINK that is all the options you have.... Not so in most (if not all) cases.... Now, the carrier ON their site MIGHT BE the best choice.... Yet, how will you know unless you are told there are other OPTIONS.

Call an agent. Ask if they are truly "independent and represent all the top options" in your state. ALSO... DO NOT shop based on JUST price.. BE SURE to understand the NETWORK you are buying.... That is another post all in its own. Reach out with questions. - gravy
