    It depends.

In some cases your coverage stops the last day you were actively at work. In other cases, coverage continues to the end of the month or it may continue through the end of the following month.

In most cases you will be eligible for COBRA and continue for up to 18 months.

When your employment ends, the employer will tell you when your coverage ends. That varies from employer to employer.

Then, depending on your situation you will either move into a new employer's plan of purchase a plan of your own. With the new legislation, Obamacare / Affordable Care Act which makes health insurance mandatory, you will need to make decisions pretty quickly.

If you are moving immediately to another employer, you may obtain new coverage there, but if you are not moving directly into an employer sponsored plan you will buy an individual/family plan directly from an insurance carrier. My state, Florida, participates in Obamacare / Affordabe Care Act and your loss of coverage is a "qualifying event" for you to apply for an individual policy. You have a 60 day window to get coverage or there will be a tax penalty for you next year.
