Scheduled Health Insurance plans are not meant to replace traditional Comprehensive Health insurance plans and are more of a basic policy providing access to day-to-day health care such as going to the doctor or getting a prescription drug.

They are often offered by associations that provide the plan to members of the association only. These associations must be formed for reasons other than to sell insurance. They are very limited compared to a comprehensive health plan and are not meant to cover catastrophic events.

Although these plans cost less than a comprehensive plan, they are limited and pay benefits directly to their providers based on the "schedule of benefits" outlined in the plan.
