You should get health insurance on your baby as quickly as possible. Preventive benefits are covered at 100% on most plans and since your child is very young, rates would be extremely low. "Child-only" plans are not as widely available as they will be in 2014, but it's still important to seek coverage.

A licensed and experienced broker can help you compare the best plans with the most comprehensive coverage. The application process is very quick and you could use coverage without a waiting period.

We always advise our clients to seek coverage on children as quickly as possible to take advantage of comprehensive preventive coverage.

The sooner you get coverage for your child the better.  Your advisor or broker should be  able to add your infant to your exisiting policy relatively easily and quickly without any underwriting. There must be at least one parent or guardian on the policy with the child if you are not currently covered and the underrwriting process would go into affect when insurance is applied for.

Typically the new born child must be added within 30 days after birth. Please contact your insurance carrier or HR department to do this ASAP. Very important and time sensitive, the sooner the better. The baby may be admitted under it's own name right after birth for various reasons and coverage must begin then. Most insurance companies require notice within 30 days of birth
