    That is a great question! Under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) everyone that qualifies for health insurance is required to have it. The idea of this is that it lowers costs for all, by increasing the risk pool ( before, it was common that the majority of people that purchased it were people with health issues, not healthy people), and reducing the number of people without insurance that were being treated and being paid for by taxpayers and healthy people who had to use the clinic or hospital that was passing along the cost. There are exceptions in the law, that will allow you to not have it, but they are very limited, and you have to be able to provide proof. I hope that helps, thanks for asking!
