A homeowner’s policy is a legal contract.  While the company has stated obligations, so do you.  If you fail to live up to one of those obligations such as bringing a vicious dog onto your property, the company can cancel coverage.  There are other reasons that a company can give.  Surprisingly, people abandon their property.  When the company discovers this situation they start proceedings to cancel the coverage.  Of course, they can always cancel you for not paying your premiums on time.
