There are a variety of markets that offer coverage for vacant residential and commercial structures. Most ore found in the Excess and Surplus lines market. The good thing about vacant coverage is that it can be written on a variety of policy terms....3months, 6months, annual. We write vacant dwellings on a 6 month basis. The premium is higher than a normal homeowners policy because the property is in fact vacant. Claims are typically higher in vacant homes vs. occupied homes. If you are in Oklahoma or Texas, give me a call and I would be glad to help you out. Thanks.

Obtaining vacant home insurance is a simple as contacting an independent agent. I myself represent at least companies that I can write you a vacant home policy with and many are admitted. The cost is a little more due to the increased risk and this has shyed people away from purchasing a vacant policy. However if you try to maintain a traditional homeowners policy and suffer a loss your most likely will either have limited coverage or no coverage at all.
