The easiest way to save on homeowners insurance premiums is to carry high deductibles and combine your auto insurance with the same company that provides your home insurance. Other options that may be available but can vary by company is if you are retired, sometimes certain occupations can get a discount. If you have done upgrades on your home such as a new roof, plumbing, electrical and heating and of course avoid claims if possible by taking good care and maintaining your home. Also an alarm system and/or interior sprinkler system can offer additional discounts.

The basic way to lower insurance costs is to increase your portion of the risk. That is usually done by increasing the deductible. There may be options to substantially increase the deductible which could save a good amount. The wrong way to reduce the cost is to reduce liability coverage. That temptation should be avoided. It is extremely hazardous to your financial health.
