The basic ideas for a homeowner’s policy and a renter’s policy are the same. The policies are developed alongside one another in the insurance company. The renter is not responsible for the structure or residence. A renter’s policy doesn’t have coverage for the residence. Most of the remaining provisions are the same as with the homeowner’s policy.

They are similar but not the same. Both provide coverage for you under a liability protection portion and your personal property under that physical damage portion. A Homeowners' policy however, will also provide coverage for your house should it be damaged by a covered peril. Your landlord's dwelling policy provides similar benefits.
