If plumbing fails suddenly the damage it creates is covered.  The plumbing repair isn’t covered but the damage to the building and personal property will be covered.  Wear and tear on a part of the house is generally not covered.  It is the responsibility of the homeowner to do everything to stop further damage the moment a leak is discovered.  This includes turning off the water, and with a water damage expert, discovering the source of the water.

Plumbing that fails is not covered under your homeowners insurance policy, only the damage caused by your failed plumbing if the dwelling is damaged. For example a pipe under the sink breaks. The pipe itself is not covered but the water damage is covered. Of course if the house burns down the plumbing is covered.
