You can claim damage to your residence if the damage is the result of one of the “named perils.”  This list is comprehensive but does have exclusions.  Earth movement and flooding are the two most significant exclusions.  You can claim the loss of personal property if the loss was the result of one of the “named perils.”  This can result in replacement with new items or depreciated items, based upon the coverage of your policy.  You can claim protection against lawsuits for personal injury and property damage.  There are ancillary coverages and limits that are in your policy but this list covers most claims.
