Insurance companies make promises.  They are regulated by the state insurance commissioner who has two charges, keep the insurance companies able to keep their promises and to keep you as a consumer happy.  There are many criteria that could be used to compare homeowner’s companies.  The overwhelming majority of companies are going to keep their promises and pay claims as they occur.  The best way to find a good homeowner’s insurance company is to contact a good insurance agent.  If you don’t have an agent, get a recommendation from a friend, colleague or neighbor.  The advice of the agent is what is critical and a good agent will not want to represent any “suspect” insurance company.
