A recovering alcoholic may get life insurance. It depends on how long you have been in recovery. Each company has its own guidelines regarding this issue. For example one company may require no alcohol abuse in the past two years where another company may require five or more years. Another thing to consider is whether the alcohol abuse has caused any health issues like liver damage or kidney disease. All these factors will be considered by an insurance underwriter prior to approving an application for life insurance.

A recovering alcoholic can usually get life insurance. The rates will depend a lot on how long they have been sober, the type of treatment they had, when the treatment was, whether there have been relapses, and whether there are any DUI's or traffic accidents related to drinking in the past 10 years. If not enough time has passed to get a medically underwritten policy, those who meet the age guidelines can get a simplified issue or guaranteed issue policy, in most states.
