Until cancer treatment has been over for at least a year, most cancer patients must rely on guaranteed issue life insurance to get covered. Unfortunately, guaranteed issue life insurance has age parameters, so some persons with cancer are unable to get life insurance during the diagnosis and treatment stages.

Most insurance companies will want you to be cancer free and finished with any treatments for at least two years before you could qualify for an immediate benefit policy. However, you can get coverage if you are still within that two year window but it would be a guaranteed issue policy where it would only pay for accidental death in the first two years and be full coverage after two year waiting period. These policies are more expensive since they do not ask any medical questions.
