    Yes, absolutely they can. When you fill out an application, you give them permission to check your medical records, and unless your policy is extremely small, they certainly will check those records. That is the only way they can be sure they are not missing a major medical issue you were not frank about. Protect yourself. Be honest and get the coverage you need.
