Whether or not you can life insurance while sick depends on some factors. For one thing, if you have not yet been diagnosed as to the cause of your symptoms, most policies will require that you wait to hear the test results before applying. If you do know the cause but have not yet started treatment, you may need to wait to see how you tolerate the treatment, or to see if it has a positive effect on your illness.

Chronic health conditions that never go away have a different standard. With diabetes, MS, sleep apnea, hepatitis, and other conditions that are controlled so that the person leads a normal life, many life insurance policies will rate according to the level of control.

In every situation, if you live in a state that offers guaranteed issue life insurance, and if you fit the age guidelines for guaranteed issue life insurance, you can get that type of policy regardless of whether you yet have a diagnosis, whether or not your treatment is working, or whether your health is rapidly deteriorating. The price for this type of coverage is relatively high, and the face amount is restricted to a small policy. But in the case of serious illnesses such as advanced cancer, this type of policy fills in where others cannot.
