Life insurance will pay the face amount in case of death due to heart attack.

If the heart attack was a pre-existing condition at the time of application, the applicant will need to visit with a good impaired risk agent to find a policy for which he qualifies. If heart attack was severe or within a year, he may need to take a simplified issue policy with a limited face amount, but there is usually some type of life insurance that will cover heart attack.

Typically traditional life insurance, be it term life insurance or permanent life insurance, the cause of death will not be excluded. If you have pre-existing heart issues, in most cases, you will be declined or rated up on your premiums to off set the risk. If you were rated for heart disease and the cause of death was heart related, the policy will pay. Life insurance companies do not pick and choose your cause of death to pay claims. There is however a two year contestability period to be sure nothing on the application was misrepresented or excluded. This also would exclude a suicide for the first two years the policy is in force. If the death occurs after the policy has been in force for two years, then all causes of death would be covered.
