There is no standard amount of life insurance that firefighters should get. You need to meet with your insurance broker to fact find and see what you need. You will usually need a minimum of 10- times your annual income of REAL life insurance that pays no matter how you die.

It's OK for firefighters to buy an extra million in accidental death insurance as long as you look at it more as a lottery ticket in addition to your REAL life insurance.

The amount of Life Insurance that is provided to firefighters depends on the city and states they work for. Firefighters are able to purchase private life insurance just like anyone else. Their occupation does not interfere with their eligibility to get life insurance, with almost every life insurance company.

The question as phrased sounds like you're asking "How much life insurance is automatically given to firefighters when employed as such by a city or county'... If that's what you're asking, I don't know that any insurance is automatically given to them anywhere. In most cases there will be a Group Life Insurance program offered to firefighters wherever they are employed, and that will typically have an upper limit. Also in most cases the firefighter will have to pay the premium them self. Some city and counties may pay for a certain amount of insurance.

Firefighting may be considered a hazardous vocation and may therefore require slightly higher premiums. That said a firefighter may purchase as much life insurance as they qualify for, (based on health and age), want and can afford.
