    Members of the Uniformed Services are automatically enrolled for the maximum life insurance benefit of $400,000 through the VA program, Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI). Members can choose to reduce it by $50,000 increments or cancel it entirely. This can be converted to the same amount of Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI) upon release of active duty or some other conditions.
