    Typically, cigarette smokers will pay about 3 times the premium of a nonsmoker. If table rated, the difference could be higher, partly because of the pricing structure, partly because the insurance company may determine that smoking makes that person much more of a risk due to his/her health condition.

    If regularly using tobacco other than cigarettes, there are a handful of companies that will charge nonsmoker rates (but not preferred nonsmoker). These run about half of smoker rates. 

    If an occasional cigar user, some companies will rate preferred nonsmoker.
