In some cases investors will buy your life insurance policy through a process called viaticizing. Normally this is only done in cases where the individual is terminal and has a life expectancy of 2 years or less. Policies considered normally are 2 years old or older. You can sell term or permanent but most investors prefer permanent plans.

To sell your insurance policy, you would contact a company that specializes in "life settlements". They will first evaluate your policy to see if there is any value in it to a potential purchaser. This evaluation also includes an evaluation of you, because they are counting on you passing away within a few years in order to make a profit. If yours is a policy in which they are interested, you will fill out an application and they will see if there is a settlement that everyone can agree on.
