If you are offered group term life insurance for free, or at a very low cost, it is definitely a good idea to take it. This is especially true if you have a health condition and the policy is able to be converted to permanent insurance later on.

If your group term life insurance policy is not portable and does not offer conversion options, you should carry another life insurance policy on your own, so that you are not left uninsured when you leave your job.

If your employer provides you free term life, take it. It is free. But remember it is not transferrable, so if you leave, you lose your insurance. That is why you should have your own, portable life insurance, whether it is term or permanent. I recommend indexed universal life. It grows, it does not go down, it reflects some market growth, and you can take it wherever you go. Talk with your agent. Thank you. GARY LANE.
