When servicemembers separate from the service, they have the opportunity to convert their SGLI (Servicemembers Group Life Insurance) to VGLI (Veterans Group Life Insurance). However, it must be done within a short time. If a veteran is looking for life insurance after some years of being out of the service, there is not a VA policy especially for them, but they can get private life insurance as can anyone of that age group.
