No one life insurance company has the best rates for everyone. One company may have the best rates for term insurance for young females in excellent health. Another may have the best rates for whole life for senior males. That is why having an insurance agent do the shopping for you can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars. They are able to put you with the company that has the best rates for YOU.

The premium paid by any individual for life insurance is based on the "rating" that the insurance company gives that individual. That rating is based on a number of factors including medical history, current medical condition, age, gender, height/weight and even your driving record.

Insurance companies view risks differently. For example, one insurance company may view certain medical conditions as "not that big of a problem" and rate an individual higher than another insurance company that is more concerned about that same medical issue. Your rating can have a dramatic effect on your monthly premium.

The best way to find out which insurance company would likely rate you the highest and thus have lower premiums for your situation is to contact an independent life insurance agent who can look help determine which companies would be best suited for your individual situation.
