You determine how much long term care insurance pays when you purchase the policy. E.g. You may decide that you want to purchase coverage of $100/day and that it would pay that benefit for a maximum of three years. If you did not put a Cost of Living Rider on the policy, it would pay $100/day until your stay ended or until you used up the three years of benefits.
